Redeemed for His Glory
On chapel nights at the Women’s Shelter, Diana Hernandez stands before a room of women with an open Bible and a heart ready to encourage.
She prays with guests. She shares Scripture. She reminds women that God sees them, loves them, and has not forgotten them.
For Diana, this is more than volunteering. It is the ministry that God has called her in.
As a chapel speaker, grandmother, and faithful prayer warrior, Diana has dedicated her life to pointing others toward Christ and reminding them that God is still in the business of redemption.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ENCOURAGING THEM AND UPLIFTING THEM BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT I NEEDED.”
Spend even a few minutes with Diana and one thing becomes abundantly clear: her life is not centered on what she has done, but on what God has done for her.
“He is true, and He is real.”
When asked why she continues returning to serve in the shelter, her answer reflects the heart behind her ministry and what God has put on her heart:
THEY NEED YOU, BECAUSE YOU’VE BEEN WHERE THEY ARE. YOU LIVED IT, WALKED IT, TALKED IT, BREATHED IT, AND YOU’RE ON THE OTHER SIDE LOOKING IN AFTER BEING ON THE INSIDE.”
Years ago, Diana was one of the women walking through the doors of the Rescue Mission looking for safety and stability for her children.
As a single mother raising four children, there was a season when she and her children needed a safe place to stay.
The Rescue Mission became that place.
“I was so grateful, at that time, to have somewhere me and my kids could go and be safe.”
But Diana does not spend much time talking about the difficult seasons. Instead, she talks about the faithfulness of God.
Diana grew up knowing about God and raised her own children to know and love the Lord as well. Through every season of life, the easy ones and the difficult ones, God remained faithful.
Looking back now, Diana sees His hand in every chapter of her story.
I’VE ALWAYS HAD WHAT I NEEDED. ONLY HE CAN DO THAT.”
The Gospel reminds us that every one of us comes to Christ the same way: in need of grace.
Scripture tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Left to ourselves, we could never earn our way back to Him. Yet in His mercy, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to do what we never could. Through His death and resurrection, He offers forgiveness, redemption, and new life to all who place their faith in Him.
Jesus does not wait for us to have everything together before He calls us His own. He transforms our lives for His purposes and for His glory.
Diana has experienced that grace firsthand.
The woman who once needed refuge now helps provide comfort to those facing hard times.
The shelter that once cared for Diana and her children has become a place where she now opens God’s Word, prays with women, and reminds them that their story is not over. That is the beauty of redemption.
God often uses the very places where we once needed help as the places where He later calls us to serve. Only God can write stories like that.
For Diana, the story has never been about what she has overcome. It has always been about what God has done. Because redemption was never meant to end with us.
God redeems us so that our lives might point others back to Him.
Diana’s story is a testimony to that truth, a life redeemed, restored, and now poured out for others.
