Muskegon Rescue Mission, Muskegon MI, Muskegon County, Melena Dyer, Volunteer Stories, MRM TestimonialWhen Melena Dyer felt God prompting her to serve in a new way, she listened. After years of working with seniors and serving the community through the YMCA, Melena began volunteering at the Mission pantry, where she now helps fill food bags and serves guests with care and consistency.

“GOD KEEPS TELLING ME THAT YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING,” she shares.

Since starting in the fall, Melena has found deep joy in volunteering. “I enjoy my job over there immensely,” she says. “I look forward to going every day if I can go every day.”

What drives Melena is her love for people and her belief that every person deserves to be seen and treated with dignity. “I love people. I love talking to people. I love helping people,” she explains. “Everybody has a story.”

Serving at the Mission has opened her eyes to the realities many people face. Melena approaches each guest with compassion, understanding that people are often navigating circumstances beyond what we can see. For her, volunteering is not about recognition, but about meeting people where they are and offering encouragement and hope.

Through her faithful service, Melena continues to live out her calling — loving people well and serving where God has placed her.
