Resolving Conflict with Dignity: Inside Ari’s Mission
When Ari Jacobs walks into the Community Resource Center each week, her goal is simple: treat people like people.
Ari is the Social Equity and Youth Program Coordinator with Mediation & Restorative Services, a nonprofit serving West Michigan. Their agency centers on mediation, helping people navigate conflict before it escalates and creates deeper harm. At the CRC, many guests are already carrying stress, uncertainty, and strained relationships, access to healthy communication and coping tools matters.
As Ari explains, “So mediation is two parties who can’t see eye to eye, people who are butting heads or where things may be escalating because there’s a barrier in communication. That could be people going through divorce, struggling to figure out parenting time, or dealing with tenant and roommate issues, especially when people are living in shared or unstable situations.”
These are the very challenges many guests face. By offering coping and communication tools on-site, Ari helps remove barriers that often prevent people from seeking mediation. The CRC becomes more than a place to meet immediate needs; it becomes a place where conflict can be addressed with dignity and care.
Over time, trust is built. Ari has seen guests move forward into new phases of life, and even return as volunteers. Those moments are reminders that when people are given space to be heard, supported, and respected, real change is possible.
Because of donor support, partners like Ari can continue showing up, providing a vital communication resource that strengthens individuals, relationships, and the community as a whole.
